My dad is having a bypass.?
Posted in Health Insurance - Free QuotesMy dad is having a bypass (4 or 5 ways) which was shock to us, he has recently suffered a serve heart attack but it getting much better now. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about a bypass and the risks or what is involed like that involved. also how long would he be in for the hospital has said around 10 days after the opp is this normal? and how long is he in ITU and also does he go into the CCU unit. my dad is only 42 he has lost 2 stone so far and weights around 15 and a half stone now, any comments would be great Thanks! Hi Nikki. ki m is right to direct you away from this site for this type of problem. However, that does not stop you feeling anxious about your Dad’s condition. It is a very worrying time for you all, more so for you as you have come to complete strangers for advice. Sometimes you relatives are unable to talk about the sort of reassurance you are looking for. Teachers may not be sufficiently qualified to help. If you contact your Dad’s Doctor and ask the receptionist if there is a Nurse with Cardiac training and experience at the Surgery who can offer you some support. The Nurse or his Doctor will not be able to discuss your Dad as they are governed by rules of confidentiality but can be more realistic and helpful in the treatment planned for your Dad.
Remember that your Dad will need your support too, so don’t give him cause to get more anxious than he probably is, bearing in mind he is in for a few months of being uncomfortable.

to be honest i dont think you should try and learn everything about it especially not from the net, most people tell bad stories never good. so i really suggest you just speak to your parents and get them to tell you what the doctor told them and do not listen to anyone over the internet or any information on the internet.

Hi. It’s natural for you to be concerned and worried. Basically Coronary artery bypass surgery creates a bypass route around the narrowed artery or arteries to improve the blood flow to the heart. On the day of your dads actual operation, he will meet with the surgeon, anaesthetist and Nurses, so your dad and other relatives can ask any questions you may have then. The operation itself takes about 3-4 hours.
After the CABG, your dad will be in ITU for the first 1-2 days. He will be on a ventilator immediately after the operation and for most of the first evening. This is to help with his breathing after the anaesthetic and allow him to rest after surgery.
Providing all goes well and there are no complications, most patients are able to go home after a week. Sometimes Doctors keep patients in longer if they haven’t made sufficient progress after the CABG. Everyone recovers at slightly different speeds and complications during a CABG are rare. Of course it really depends on your fathers age, and general overall condition.
