I find working stressful, what’s an easy, low-stress, possibly even boring job I can do?
Posted in ContributorsI always get stressed in my work and have had 8 jobs in the last 12 years. They have all either been financial or editing/library related. I have kept trying to work hard, try new things, not give up, but frankly, I don’t think I’m going to get any better at it. I have chronic illnesses that have been caused by this situation and I’m tired and worn out. My mental health has suffered for a long time.
I don’t mind doing boring repetious work, I just need something where there is no pressure, just simple, plodding work. If you have any suggestions for an easier working life I would be glad to hear it.
I’m 33 and I have no children. My husband has a good job.
xenobyte72, I don’t deny I need professional assistance, I have been receiving help for many years. I don’t claim that the work I have done is particularly stressful, I only claim that I cannot cope with it. I believe if I joined the Army I would not only have a breakdown but would be very likely to become suicidal. I am looking for less-stressful work, so do you have any suggestions in that direction?

I tried the same thing - I went into what I thought were stress free boring unchallenging jobs, but found that there were difficult people working as supervisors and I was stressed at what I saw as wasting my time in what I perceived as meaningless work. So I had to go back and deal with why I became so stressed. My deeply held beliefs about how things/people/myself should be are the cause. Cognitive behaviour therapy particularly REBT have shown me what and why. A good book might be one authored by Windy Dryden.

How about working in retail, at a store? Or setting up your own dog-walking, house-sitting business? So many people are out in the workforce that they need someone to look in on their pet.

If your husband has a good job you should seriously consider giving up work for a year and trying voluntary work which can be very rewarding ( but doesn’t pay anything)
I have always found that mixing with people who are WORSE off than me, (either physically , mentally, or financially, ) makes me realise how lucky I am.

Join the army and learn the meaning of stress.
Or get some therapy. If you can’t deal with that level of stress you need professional assistance.

A lot of big businesses have a security company that does work for them. Just look for a security job where you sit in a desk or such all day. there are lots of them out there.

Hi Peta. Maybe very general office work, cleaning if it is enough money and hours for you or maybe caring at an old people’s home? You seem such a lovely caring person to me, I think you would make an excellent care assistant. Or maybe you could think about trying occupational therapy? This is a rewarding job where you basically entertain elderly or people with disadvantages and maybe you could train to do this while working a part time job? xxx
