How would my surgery take place?
Posted in Health Insurance CostWould I be put to sleep or would I have my hand numbed with local anaesthetic? I have a 50/50 chance of have surgery near the tip of my index finger (joint closest to the finger nail.) I have what you would call a "mallet finger" where a chunk of bone has broken off. If it makes no progress in healing with the finger splint then it the bone will need screwing back in place.
Sleep or local anaesthetic?
I’m not opting for anything. It’s the surgeons that will be doing it for me. They will make the decision. It’s the NHS.

a digital block will suffice… a local anesthetic injected at the medial and lateral sides of the involve finger should be enough… can be done as an out-patient procedure…
however… if you opt to do it under general anesthesia, it is also possible,but the cost and the risk are higher for this minor procedure…

Regional anaesthesia probably. Local doesn’t really last long enough so more of your arm is anaesthetised.
Very simple procedure.
A mallet finger normally refers to a type of injury to the tendon at the tip of the finger.
