   Hi Nicky, sorry to hear your going through this, i’ve been there ans it’s not nice.
   But i will tell you my story.
   I was on the pill for many years and then my fiance’ and i decided we’d like to start a family. I came off the pill and gave it a couple of months to get of of my system and then we started trying. We concieved the very first month but unfortunately it ended in a very early miscarriage.
   I didn’t think much of it and we tried again straight away.
   Nothing happened for 9 months and then i had another early miscarriage, but i also had very bad period pains some months too.
   I decided that somthing wasn’t right somewhere and started seeing a fertility specialist. (that was after 12 months of trying) To cut a long story short, i had a laporoscopy and was found to have endometriosis. I had 6 months of treatment for this and then my doctor gave me clomid 50mg and he said if that didn’t work in 3 months i would have to have 100mg of clomid for another 3 months and if that didn’t work then we would have to go for IVF.
   Well i’m pleased to say that the 1st month of clomid worked and i am now 30 weeks pregnant age 36.
   If you are in the UK i think you get the first 2 IVF tries for free and then you have to pay.
   But i would definately try the clomid first, there are loads of good reports about this drug and i’m proof it can work first time.

   5 months, but i told my doc a year. they had nothing to prove against this as my pill was from family planning.

   i was diagnosed with pcos over 1 year ago so knew it was going to be difficult, and i have also previously tried to concieve with no success.

   i couldnt wait, i think it is a year before they give you meds, so i said a year and now i have been prescribed clomid and will start on my next cycle.

   Like Janey, I’m in my late 30s and currently 30w pregnant. I also got pregnant the very first month on Clomid — I think my body simply needed a ‘jump start’. We had been trying for 27 cycles. I started off not worrying about it, then after 3 months I began charting at fertilityfriend.com (use a website if you’re going to chart, because they’ll do all the calculations for you!) for BBT and cervical mucus. Then after a few years my friend gave me a second-hand Fertility Monitor which helped a lot. The third month with the monitor is when my RE decided to try Clomid, and …. BAM!

   I would most certainly go through the basic testing first (for FSH, estrogen, progesterone and sperm check) to be sure that you’re in working order. Charting is very useful to know if you’re ovulating … you probably know this all already … and then do the Clomid thing first for a few months, followed by IUI, and only then do you really need to think about IVF. IUI wills et you back $500 but IVF will be in the tens of thousands, so I’d do it the least expensive and least invasive route possible, if you can.

   I won’t be able to start infertility testing for another 3-4 years. We can’t afford it and my health insurance doesn’t cover infertility testing or fertility medications. I actively tried for 29 months and 30 periods with 2 false pregnancies and 4 BFN. Gave up TTC 6 months ago and figure I’ll never be able to have my own children. I’m leaving it up to God. I’m going to adopt in 3-4 years so I’m happy about that. So I’ll have been infertile for eight to nine years before I can start infertility testing. It will take my husband 3-4 years to get his Ph. D and then 6 months to 1 year to get a job in his country. We started TTC on our wedding night 2.5 years ago.

   We tried for a year and a 1/2 on our own before seeing a fertility specialist. We then went through all of the testing. Our diagnosis was unexplained infertility so we hoped that fertility meds and less expensive, less invasive procedures like IUI would result in a pregnancy.

   We tried 4 rounds of Clomid, 3 of them with IUI . . . nothing. We then tried 3 rounds of injectible fertility meds with IUI . . 1 chemical pregnancy and a whole lot of nothing.

   We then moved onto IVF. We were blessed on our first cycle. My twins will be 11 months old this weekend. Although our injectible IUI cycles were unsuccessful, it gave our doctor the opportunity to see how I would react to the meds and adjust dosages as we used the same meds for IVF

   I have been trying for about 13 months now. I started my first round of clomid this month. Just took my last pill last night and very excited to get through my cycle and see what happens in a few weeks. Wish me luck and the same for you.
