Does Health Insurance Cover Pregnancy?
Friday, October 5th, 2007In the world of health insurance in the UK, normal pregnancy as a rule is not covered. However, different providers will offer certain areas related to normal pregnancy that benefit will be paid. The usual areas where benefit may well be covered are ectopic pregnancy (where the foetus is growing outside the womb), hydatidiform mole (abnormal cell growth in the womb), post partum haemorrhage (heavy bleeding in the hours and days immediately after childbirth), retained placental membrane (afterbirth left in the womb after childbirth) and miscarriage or when the foetus has died and remains with the placenta in the womb.
The main areas that would not normally be payed aprt from the ones already detailed would be termination of pregnancy or any consequences of it, investigations into and treatment of infertility, contraception, assisted reproduction, sterilisation (or its reversal) or any consequence of them or of any treatment for them. Treatment of impotence or any consequence of it and Gender re-assignment operations.
