should i tell my sister i dropped outof college?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

ok here’s the whole story…. im in final year of my degree and i tried to study everyday but between one and another i just couldnt do it. i used to great at studying and enjoyed my course and got As and B+. there were alot of reasons why i couldnt study, mainly ive lost confidence in myself because i was diagnosed with schizophrenia and also im on meds which arent great. i just dont have the same mental clarity or stamina i used to have. and also ive got into very bad habits. ie watching tv and not excercising. i went to counsellor in my college and she said i was going to give myself burn out and that i should accept that i dont have stamina because i had 2 whoppingnervous brakedowns included psychotic episodes in the last 2 years. she suggested i take a year out and build my stamina up and she reckoned if i did that i would regain my enthuasism and stamina for course. also ther was the fact that if i didnt do well in these exams i would forever ruin my chancesof getting into postgrad i wanted. because you cant repeat final year in my college.i felt like a bit of a failure and still do but i decided to take a year out.
my problem now is ihavent told my sister and here’s why…. she is a super studier. shes in a grind school and goes to school from 9-6 and then does 5 hours stuy when she comes home, and this is despite her having chronic fatique syndrome and getting every illness under the sun. this term alone she had to get 2 operations for ovarian cysts and one on her scalp. also she got 2 really bad kidney infections and gotachest infection with a very high fever. the doctor even told her to go home to bed, but she went in and did her xmas exams anyway. she just never gives up. so basically shes great, and im a waster. so i decided i couldnt possibly tell what ihad done and am now pretending im doing my exams. but the lying is getting really hard. she even rang me tonite because she was having a mental block and wanted to knowihow i got through mine( I didnt). so should i tell the truth? i really cant stand the thought of her thinking im a loser and a quiter.

sorry this is such a long question!!!

LIfe insurance denied?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I am a 29 year old non-smoker, mother of one, married woman who is the picture of health. However, LV have just denied me life insurance "for health reasons" (really specific, as you can tell).

My husband and I have wracked our brains as to what grounds I could have been denied on, and the only thing we can come up with is that I was diagnosed with Chronic fatigue syndrome 4 years ago.

I have not, however, had any symptoms or received any treatment for this in the last 3 and a half years, and all my health records reflect this. In addition, Chronic Fatigue is not a fatal illness so should have no bearing on receiving insurance if I die.

Can anyone tell me whether LV are within their rights to reject me, and what the chances are of me getting this decision overturned? As it is unjustified, what recourse do I have for further action?
I understand that this is a pre-existing condition, but the apploication is for life insurance, not health insurance. Surely if you can’t die from it, then it’s irrelevant to a life insurance application?

What will the future bring?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

The Facts:
"One in ten youngsters suffers mental problems as behavioural disorders double in 30 years " - the Independent
"One in four Europeans will suffer from a significant episode of mental illness during their lifetime. Mental health problems account for approximately 20% of the total burden of ill health in Europe. In the EU, the economic costs of mental health problems are high: at least 3-4% of the gross national products. - Health and Consumer Intergroup
"20 per cent of women and 14 per cent of men in England have some form of mental illness. 18 per cent of women have a ‘neurotic disorder’ such as anxiety, depression, phobias and panic attacks, compared with 11 per cent of men. An estimated one in 20 people will have serious - or clinical - depression at any one time. By the year 2020, it has been estimated that clinical depression will be second only to chronic heart disease as an international health burden. - BBC Health

Has anyone in California been approved for MMJ use for digestive disorders?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

My husband has bad bad acid reflux. He’ll wake up in the morning to his stomach hurting and be in the bathroom forever throwing up (to the point of blood) and burping up tons of air that seems to be trapped in his stomach. He also has no appetite. We have been to the doctor for this and he has said that it sounds like acid reflux and probably even ulcers. He prescribed medicine but it does not work and my husbands stomach does not do well with pills (of any kind). He does smoke weed and that is all that seems to help. If he does not have it his stomach will be hurting all day and he will not have an appetite to eat. I have researched the topic and found good information on the subject but on the other hand have seen alot of sights that say the illness has to be chronic in order to be approved. So I would just like to know if anyone living in California has been approved for MMJ for this illness and where did you go? Thank you for all answers they are greatly appreciated.
No they prescribed Prilosec but my husbands stomach can’t take any pills. Any type just hurts his stomach.
Also no they did not do any further checking into the situation. I just go to my town clinic because of my insurance and they arn’t very good doctors period. Infact I don’t even think they are actual doctors but working up to becoming actual doctors.

assisted suicide..right to some people but where to draw the line?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I’m not against all assisted suicide, but i do not think the law should change.last month we saw a couple who decided to die together because the wife was really ill,but where do we draw the line ? will next time be a mother and the children, because the mum is ill and the children will miss her? will it be the disabled children who some family member see as a burden?
there is something really wrong about humans deciding when and where they die,it is not natural or healthy.
i have sen close relatives die of chronic and painful illnesses, not at any stage of their condition and decease anyone around them tough that they were dying in a undignified way.
people think it is their right to kill themselves or help others to commit suicide.but who are we to start deciding when and where we should die?
if people want to die in a dignified way then fight against your decease until the end, don’t take the easy route and die in a cowardly way
viper: as i said yes i have and i know how hard it is ,i also know that suicide is wrong nd yes very cowardly

Can things ever be the same again? Will I ever forget the way she acted?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Me and my ex are seeing each other fairly reguarly. We split 5 mths ago, her choice.

At the time we split her Dr said she was depressed, she agreed & the Dr gave her meds & counselling. 10 days later she said she wasn’t depressed & blamed our relationship for her unhapiness. She took the meds but refused counselling.

I tried to sort stuff with her for a mth or so, she wasn’t interested. We went our separate ways, both dated other people briefly, neither worked.

She is hinting she may be interested again. She has invited me over to her place for dinner.

I just wonder if things can ever be the same again. I did so much for her when we were together and it wasn’t always easy. She got down and I was there for her. She suffers from Chronic fatigue syndrome and I read into the illness, always there to give her a hug etc and she just ended things suddenly. I was devastated at the time.

She now admits she was depressed at the time. I still love her but she hurt me so badly!!???
I am sure she knows she hurt me badly. I hinted recently at how I was at the time I split and she looked like she was about to start crying.

I do really miss her but it took me ages to get over what happened.
She was prescribed prozac around the time we split. She told me her Dr has now said she can come off it and she was gradually brought off it.

She had a history of depression, since a teenager, she is now 28.

I asked a question earlier about hot water bottle burns on my back?

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

the pain in my back eventually ended up resulting in a trip in an ambulance to hospital, I had been ignoring this pain for literally months (More fearful of hospital than the illness!), and ended up being diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis.I have therefore stuck rigidly to a low fat diet, no alcohol, and have lost 3 stone over a period of 8 months, but I have been really watching and reading all food labels for fat content, (a good diet for anybody reading this), but none of the doctors have actually told me if I can actually be totally cured or if I have this for life! and even if I can live without one because, I let myself get so ill I nearly died I am sure, so I was told anyway, (if it had burst at home, i think), So Dr Frank if you are there can you give me a really good summary about it and indeed anybody out there who knows, and also instead of feeling like a numpty on the pub (this ones for you Dr. Frank) is it Ok to have alcohol free beer, so that I kinda fit in a bit?

Mum needs help. Please advise?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Hi all
Just wondered if anybody has had experience like this and could therefore advise me. My 14yr old daughter suffers with anxiety and stress as a result of bullying all through school and emotional upsets like deaths, moving and her own personal illness’ (chronic period problems, ibs and ovarian cysts). Recently she has become worse with symptoms of agoraphobia. She will do anything to get home early from school and hates going in every day. This has recently become a bigger problem as she has lied to the school that she was approached by a guy at the bus stop on the way to school. The school police support officer took details from her and i was called. She has an appointment tomorrow with a clinical psychologist and im not sure of the implications in telling her this ( I know that i should) if she does will the psychologist be obliged to tell the school and the police? I dont want her tarnished with a bad reputation for the rest of her school days for this one mistake. She knows this was wrong and is so upset about it that she has agreed to speak to the psychologist as she now knows she has a problem. Its not just this incident she also has a problem with paranoia as even in the privacy of the bathroom she covers herself with a towel as she feels like she is in the middle of her class and all can see her. Shes such a good kid i dont want to make a mistake that will effect her for the rest of her life. Please advise.
Hi Thanks for your answer. I know that home schooling is an option but isnt that just facilitating her feelings to the home? I have considered it but i do think that finding a way to help her cope with school and socialising etc may be more beneficial to her in the long run?????
Sorry i may not have been very clear earlier. The bullying occured until the age of 11yrs and she is now 14. The school she is in now is really good and she loves it, thats not the problem. She seems to have developed a type of phobia connected to school.
